Glass Blowing is a dangerous activity! No person intoxicated or inhibited in any way will be allowed to work. You must be fully aware, compliant, and alert to attend all our workshops with no exceptions.
Safety glasses (or sun glasses) and shoes that cover your toes are mandatory to work in the hot shop.
Some people will find the work easier than others.
Hot Glass work is extreme and personally challenging.
You must be brave, you will sweat and be exposed to heat and required to work until your piece is finished. (approximately 20 minutes per piece). This kind of work is not for everyone, and your coordination, physical abilities, and mechanical aptitude must be fully considered prior to registering for the class.
No refunds will be given for failed work, lack of ability or late attendance.
If you are a crafty, creative and adept person who enjoys new challenges, then glass blowing is for you.
Success is in the process
There is never a guarantee of a successful piece. All works have to go through an annealing process and even if you make a “perfect piece” failure can occur for a number of reasons. A drop of water (or your sweat) at knock off from the pipe, or a crack occurring at knock off, electrical or equipment failure, a small piece of ceramics from the furnace in the piece or boxing your piece too cold, are some of the possibilities. You accept this risk when you sit at the bench. As a beginning student you and your assistant will experience regular failures in the making process which is quite common and understood. Even as professionals we experience failed pieces although not common it does occur.
