Wayan was born October 30th, 1968 into a large family with 11 siblings. His father is a Village Priest and accomplished oil painter in the village of Penestanan, Ubud Bali, Along with his brothers, at an early age, they learned to paint and draw. After high school he became a professional painter of the “Young Artist Style,” a style which was developed in the village by his father, his uncles and other boys during the mid sixties under the direction of Dutch Artist Ari Smitt. He became acquainted with Ron Seivertson when Ron moved to Penestanan, and befriended his brother I Nyoman Kacip. During Nyoman’s battle with cancer, Ron and Wayan became close friends and comrades caring for Nyoman till he past away. When Ron began glass blowing in Bali, he turned to Wayan and his other family members to become his apprentices. Wayan has worked at Ron’s side from the beginning and today is an accomplished glass blower.When they first discussed the overall business plan of Horizon, Ron promised to give his bench and position to Wayan when he retired, thus offering him a career at Horizon Glassworks in exchange for Wayan’s loyalty to the company. Over the years the two men have been through peaks and valleys, and trials and tribulations together both in business and in their personal lives. Today they consider each other brothers rather than friends. Wayan is the staff manager at Horizon and often helps with designs, new hires, and decision making in the operations of the studio. With his loyalty and helpfulness in general, Wayan has been a key person in helping Ron develop as a glass artist. As Ron’s lead assistant Wayan has been instrumental in the creation of thousand of glassworks. In addition to staff manager, Wayan is also a teacher of glass blowing.
