| The Artists |
| |
Ron Seivertson
spent 20 years building fine homes both as carpenter and general
contractor. Ron also spent several years developing as a painter
and sculptor prior to finding hot glass as his ultimate medium.
Ron took to glassblowing and sculpting quickly and has studied
intensely in Seattle, Wash. USA and Melbourne, Australia. He has
attended The Pilchuck Glass School twice. Ron's talent for glassblowing
also has ancestral ties as his great grandfather was a glassblower
from Norway. |
| Artist Statement |
It's a funny thing making art,
I find it utterly consumes me.
|
| I took a bold chance at hot glass
and became hooked immediately.
The internal drive for it was so very overwhelming that I thought
or cared about little else. I feel so very deeply called to do
this work, and find my hand’s, imagination and aptitude
are such powerful gifts.
|
| Several years ago I read a statement
by the great Norwegian sculptor Gustoff Veglan. It hit me hard
as he spoke of capturing the emotion of a piece as quickly as
possible, in what ever form, and getting to the essence of the
inspiration before losing that intensity. I find in hot glass
you can do just that, not only in a rough draft but in the final
piece itself. |
What I really love about art
is the character of the work; I find the subject is often secondary
for me. Each piece has so much personality, especially when the
artist shows great talent or mastery. I think most artists reach
a wrestling point with each and every piece where a certain amount
of giving in or allowing takes place. That’s the point for
me where real beauty and grace comes out, the point of intuitive
response. |
Hot glass is so very sensitive,
I find even my thought affects it, and it responds immediately.
The results of effort are deep and permanent. In this medium the
margin of error or excellence is very small. It's quite intense
and I love that. I used to rock climb and sky dive and I enjoyed
that point of no return where I was forced to do my best facing
injury or death if I didn't. Glass demands my best also. At times
it screams at me, ‘now, make your move, show me what you've
got’. I scream back from my inner-self with imagination,
focus and effort. The result of this is quickly set. It is the
work itself. It is glass............ |
I have always been deeply moved
by color, elegance and gesture, especially gesture. My desire
is to express this sense to others through my work. |

|
I Nyoman Surakso
Born in Panestanan Kelod Ubud, 41 years Old.
I Nyoman Mantur
Born in Panestanan Kelod Ubud, 33 years Old
Surakso begain painting
at age 7, Mantur at age 14. Both learned Balinese traditional
style from their fathers. The influence of Arie Schmit which
spawned the Penestanan “Young Artist” style
in the 1960’s is evident in their composition and
color usage.
Both Painters later studied extensively with I Ketut Soki
the first student of Schmit and one of the original 14 Young
artists. This style was a complete departure from traditional
Balinese painting at the time, and therefore the 14 youth’s
own original style. Surakso is 3rd generation from Schmidt.
Mantur is 4th generation from Schmidt. Both continue to
expand their artistic vision seeking to develop their own
voice and styles as artists. Working with Ron Seivertson
and glass continues to broaden the horizons of these highly
accomplished masters.
